“Souls that resonate together create the world anew.”
This painting did not begin with a decision to “paint a dragon and a phoenix”.
It came from simply surrendering to the flow of colour and energy.
As the brush moved, in a stillness and elation like festival drums sounding somewhere far away,
it became a time of prayer —
as though something large were descending through me, from heaven to earth.
What began as “light coming down from heaven to earth” turned,
at some point, into “blessing rising from earth to heaven”,
and the dragon and the phoenix met and mingled — sky and land,
yin and yang, every difference softly melting together —
until I felt even the boundary between them disappear.
Meeting, and harmony, are not special things; perhaps they already live inside each one of us.
May this painting be a small reminder to your heart of the ease and joy of being connected.
This work holds the miracle of meeting and merging.
On the left, a dragon dances at ease — running through the heavens,
holding the power of earth and water.
On the right, a phoenix beats its wings — rising high,
the sacred bird of fire, beauty and rebirth.
The two are joined by rainbow arches and rings of light, and there, heaven and earth, yin
and yang, all things unlike one another meet, take each other's hand, and melt into one.
The spirals and swirls, the rings, the shifting colours of light in the background,
express the blessing at the root of things and the flow of life.
The character 施 in the lower right carries the message common to all of MIRAI's work: the love
and harmony that circulate through giving.
This painting quietly conveys, in beautiful colour and form,
the bonds and blessings we cannot see and yet feel with certainty.
